Musician Celebrates 80-Year Career

Black History Month was established in 1976 to recognize the African American race and celebrate the impact it has made in history. The Sealy News will be featuring local African Americans who have helped influenced history.

Jazz is often considered the only musical art form originating in America, created during the early 1900s in the African American communities in the southern part of the United States.

While Sealy may have been just a small farm community, it was the birthplace a legend who not only transcended the Jazz Age but also lived to see the turn of the next century.

Approaching the age of 104, Huey Long was drawn by the sound of music and introduced to the guitar and piano at a young age.

"The guitar at that time was considered a poor man's instrument," Long said. read more
